Self-referrals, The Osteoporosis Scanning Service for private patients

Woman explaining Scan

Southern Osteo Scanning provides a confidential and professional service for private self referrals primarily in the south east.

Southern Osteo Scanning offers you the opportunity to find out whether your bones are below the correct strength and therefore at greater risk of fracturing.

A bone density scan, or DEXA (dual energy xray absorptiometry) scan measures the bone mineral content and density. It is an accurate and reliable means of assessing bone strength and risk of fracture.

It is a simple procedure involving a 3-minute scan of the forearm. It is painless and does not require you to undress.

An accurate computerised result is available immediately. It is not necessary to have a referral from your GP but a copy of the result will be sent to the doctor for retention in your medical records.

Any scan results falling outside the normal expected range are referred to a Consultant for a further detailed report.

By finding out more you can pass on your knowledge to family and friends, perhaps even help prevent a future fracture.
